Our scholar-in-residence for Shabbat of Parshat Yitro, February 3, 2018 will be Rabbi Steven Weil, the Senior Managing Director of the Orthodox Union (“OU”). He will be accompanied by his wife Yael. We are planning several opportunities for all of us to hear from both Rabbi Weil and Yael, both of whom are popular teachers and lecturers. There will be a community dinner on Friday night and a gala Kiddush on Shabbat.
Rabbi Weil served as the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Oak Park, Michigan and later at Beth Jacob Congregation in Beverly Hills, California. In speaking of Rabbi Weil, Stephen J. Savitsky, the President of the OU, said the following: “Rabbi Weil has demonstrated in both his positions in Beverly Hills and Detroit that he is a remarkable leader. He brings energy, vision, and an incredible work ethic to this position.”
Rabbi Weil, in his position with the OU, has served widely as scholar-in-residence while visiting congregations across the country and strongly advocating for Israel and Jewish Education. He has worked closely with leaders in the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
We look forward to the visit by the Weils to our community. Please act now to save that weekend on your calendar to be sure that you can join us for this singularly wonderful occasion.
